2004 Chapter Goals
� Increase communication to all alumni in Washington, DC metropolitan area
- Establish phone hotline where alumni can call in 24 hours a day for updates of chapter activities and leave their contact information and other messages
- Reactivate website
- Continue email Rattler Report 2x monthly
- Publish 3 x year hard copy newsletter to financial members, 1-2 x year to full alumni database
- Develop business card or refrigerator magnet with all pertinent chapter information
- Have alumni table at all Chapter sponsored events
- Use local public service outlets to announce chapter activities
- Actively work to get more email addresses into the Chapter database
� Fundraising
- Put major emphasis on "Membership" which is the best fundraiser
- Develop more programs that have large return on investment (Spirit of Washington Cruise or Crabfeast)
- Develop activities that will help fund Chapter endowment
- Involve parents in scholarship fundraising activities
- Increase annual giving to University to $12,000 ($10,000 academic programs, $2,000 athletics)
- Hold program to educate area alumni about Planned Giving instruments for the University and Chapter
� Scholarship
- Raise monies to fund four $1000 scholarships
- Identify students through various media who would be suitable recipients based on predetermined criteria via media (chapter website, ad in FAMUan, letters to incoming freshmen, announcements in Rattler Report, chapter table at area college fairs, DC Metro Club, school radio and chapter newsletter)
- Increase applicant pool by 50%
- Recognize students and their families at the annual scholarship dance
- Encourage scholarship recipients and their families to help raise scholarship dollars
- Maintain relationship with DC College Access Program
- Conduct financial aid workshop for parents to help inform on how to fund their children's education
- Ensure monies are sent to the university in a timely fashion and apply to student accounts
- Inform students regarding other scholarships the university and
� Recruitment - Alumni
- Increase financial membership to 250
- Increase communication
- Mail 2 x year to request membership (January, May)
- Re-implement "Each One, Reach One" program. Offer prize to local alumnus who actively recruits the most first-time members
- Send targeted letter to alumni who were financial in 2001, 2002 and 2003 who have not yet paid dues in 2004
- Use Harris alumni directory to contact alumni who are not in the Chapter database
- Use the concept that "Membership has Its Privileges". Develop member and non-member costs for Chapter activities. Make some activities members only (CBC Congressional activity)
- Have membership table at all alumni events
- Have special outreach to 70's and 80's graduates who have limited involvement
- Have Mixers/Happy Hours as opportunities to meet & greet
- Follow-up on suggestions from membership survey
- Follow-up with new members to make sure they get involved.
- Improve outreach to parents as Associate Members
- Continue Holiday Dessert Reception with enrolled students and parents
- Continue financial support of the DC Metro Club
- Increase communication with DC Metro Club
� Recruitment - Students
- Continue participation in area college fairs with special emphasis on Montgomery County, Northern, VA, private and charter schools in the metro area.
- Work with University to have FAMU Recruitment Reception in DC area in 2004
- Educate area counselors regarding FAMU
- Adopt-a-school in the District as a FAMU feeder school
- Identify and have alumni participate in high school career fairs
� Image Building
- Reinstitute website
- Continue with TMSF Inter-Alumni Council which allows Chapter to network with other area HBCU alumni chapters
- Encourage more alumni to provide packets and request their companies to actively recruit at FAMU and join the Cluster organization
- Implement License Plate Program
� Governmental Relations
- Encourage alumni to participate in local elections
- Monitor issues on Capitol Hill and state of Florida and respond accordingly at the request of the National Alumni Association and /or the University President
� Finances
- Obtain tax exemption in Washington, DC and Virginia
- Apply to the United Way and Federal Combined Federal Campaign to become a designated agency for funding
- Have investment committee functioning in 2004 to advise on current investment account
- Continue the procedure of annual audits and respond to audit suggestions and improvements
� Camaraderie
- Create activities that help to keep Alumni excited about being a part of the Alumni Association
- Sponsor activities such as attendance at Plays/Musicals
- Continue to sponsor Sports Events participatory and spectator events.
- Continue to host Mixers / Happy Hours at different locales in the area
- Continue to build the Chapter so it is not considered a chapter exclusively for one group, but a chapter inclusive of all
