The committees of the Washington DC Area Florida A&M University Alumni Association are:

  • Fundraising - responsible for raising funds to give to the University
  • Scholarship - is a standing committee with important responsibility to select worthy students in the area for academic scholarships to FAMU. It involves working with high schools in our area to determine scholarship awards for students to attend FAMU.
  • Student Recruitment - is a non-standing committee and conducts the important responsibility of working with local churches, fraternities and other organizations to recruit students for FAMU. We attend education fairs sponsored by these organizations, set up our FAMU booth, tell the FAMU story to student prospects and hand out literature and information about FAMU. Our objective is to recruit students for FAMU.
  • Hospitality - is a non standing committee providing assistance at all DC Chapter functions. This includes ensuring proper protocols are in place and followed at all Chapter functions; providing snacks/light food and drinks to support chapter meetings; and working as necessary with other elements outside the DC Chapter on hospitality.
  • Entertainment - is a standing committee of the organization with focus on entertainment events for the organization. The focus of this committee is to be aware of the chapter composition and make determination of those entertainment activities in the best interest of the organization.
  • Membership - develop, design and recommend programs which will enhance the growth of the Association.
  • Nominating - is a standing committee that provides a slate of individuals for election to positions of responsibility in the DC Chapter. It involves having awareness of chapter membership in order to select the best possible candidates for office.
  • Bylaws - responsible for developing and recommending for approval rules and regulations which govern the policies and procedures and recommend proposed amendments to the Constitution and Bylaws of the Association
  • Auditing - is a standing committee to conduct yearly or special audit of the financial records of the DC Chapter. It involves making a critical assessment of all financial records, reporting any discrepancies and making recommendations as appropriate.
