President's Message - February 2012
Dear DC Chapter Rattlers:
It seems like yesterday that we welcomed the Chinese year of the Dragon and already it is February. The coming months are filled with excitement as we complete an agenda of events that promises to be fun and fulfilling. We have planned recruiting visits to school fairs to recruit students for FAMU; holding our spring dance to raise money for student scholarships; attending the FAMU National Alumni Association Convention in Charlotte NC; participating in our DC Chapter golf tournament; attending our annual picnic; hosting our annual student sendoff for students going to FAMU; attending basketball and football games in our area to cheer for our Rattlers; and ending with our Christmas party in December.
All of these activities will be successful because we have one of the best Alumni Chapters in the nation. We also have DC Rattlers who demand an important ingredient of achievement and that is success. The success of the DC Chapter and FAMU are intertwined and measured by so many notable achievements. For example, recently the FAMUs Simply Marvelous Woman’s Flag Football team won its eighth national championship when they defeated the Texas State Blazers to win the national championship. Go Rattlers! This and other similar achievements reflect the competitive spirit of all Rattlers.
As we move forward the coming months, you are asked to support planned activities of our DC Chapter. Your support helps to send a student to FAMU who otherwise would not be able to attend. Your support buys books for a student who cannot afford them. These students in many instances may become members of the Simply Marvelous Women’s Flag Football team and win national championships because of your help. Their accomplishments make all of us proud to be Rattlers.
Your continued support of DC Chapter fundraising projects is sincerely appreciated. However, all of us can do more. Make plans now to support our planned events this year to make it possible for students to receive scholarships and other needed assistance to attend FAMU.
