The Washington, D.C. Chapter of the FAMU National Alumni Association annually awards four $2,000 scholarships to area students. Beyond fulfilling our commitment to seek out and award scholarships to high achieving and worthy students in the Greater Washington Metropolitan area communities, the chapter, in recent years, has contributed $10,000 annually to the university to supplement its broad-range scholarship program.

In 1998, the chapter named the four scholarships for FAMU alumni and chapter members who have made lasting contributions to the chapter and area communities.

  • David Bryant
The late David Bryant was a charter member with 55 years of active participation at the local, regional and national levels. Dave is highly respected by his Rattler and professional peers and retains a bounty of awards for a life of meaningful contributions. Dave Bryant was a long-time government employee and retired from the National Security Agency (NSA).
  • Benjamin Canty
The late Dr. Benjamin Canty is well remembered for his many successes with the music education and training of area youth. It is with delight that many recall the efforts Dr. Canty pursued in preparing our children to perform at annual FAMU Founders Day events.
  • Annie B. Pharr
The late Annie B. Pharr is a chapter ICON. She is recognized and respected for undaunting efforts in the application of effective business practices regarding financial matters. Annie's presence at sponsored events is always noted and thoughts of her persistent spirit remind us to focus on the business at hand. Ms. Pharr is a retired nurse.
  • Charles Perry
The late Dr. Perry served as president of the chapter from the beginning and for many successive years. It was through his direction that this chapter retained its focus to continue and expand to its current level of achievement.
