2015 DC Metro HBCU Alliance 5k

The Washington, DC Metro Historically Black Colleges and Universities  Alumni Alliance, Inc. (DCHBCUAA) is hosting its third annual HBCU 5K Run/2K Walk Health and Wellness Fair. This community health initiative and fundraiser aspires to educate on living well, with regular exercise and proper diet and draw attention to the  barriers that many people in our communities face in making healthy choices. We encourage all citizens in the Washington, DC community to come out and support this event.

In conjunction with the race, the DCHBCUAA is having the first annual Summer Breeze Day Party on June 27 from 4:00 - 8:30 pm. This will be held at Redrocks Neapolitan Bistro at 1348 H Street NE. The party will be hosted by Micheline Bowman and the DJ is DJ Scientific. Tickets must be purchased for the day party in advance at www.dchbcu.org. The local chapter receives money from the profits of this race and day party in accordance with the number of participants we have register for the race and/or buy tickets for the day party. In order to register for the race or buy tickets for the day party, go to www.dchbcu.org to make that purchase.

Register today to be a participant in our Annual 5K Run/2K Walk at 8 am on the campus of Howard University or the Day party at Redroks Neapolitan Bistro at 4 pm on Saturday, June 27th.

FAMU Alumnus on Dr. Oz show

One of our local alumni, El Brown, will be featured on the Dr. Oz show Friday April 10.  In 2013, she decided to reclaim my life and start a journey to, in her words, "My Best Self". During that journey, she lost 100 pounds in 274 days by committing myself to a lifestyle of movement and healthier eating. During that timeframe, she not only shed over 100 lbs, but also freed herself from internal limitations that were holding her back from being her best!!

She chronicled her entire journey of Baby Steps towards her Best Self and getting her SnapBack! on Social Media. The transparency of the experience allowed her to gain supporters, cheerleaders, and battle buddies who followed her and joined in her journey. This Beautiful Journey has resulted in my first book, SnapBack! with El Brown, and a feature on The Dr. Oz Show!!  Click here to see a sneak preview of the show and click here to view the rest of the segment on the Dr. Oz show.
