Scholarship Application now available, click here.

The Washington, D.C. Chapter annually awards four $2,000 scholarships to area students. Beyond fulfilling our commitment to seek out and award scholarships to high achieving and worthy students in the Greater Washington Metropolitan area communities, the chapter, in recent years, has contributed $10,000 annually to the university to supplement its broad-range scholarship program.

In 1998, the chapter named the four scholarships for FAMU alumni and chapter members who have made lasting contributions to the chapter and area communities.

David Bryant is a charter member with 55 years of active participation at the local, regional and national levels. Dave is highly respected by his Rattler and professional peers and retains a bounty of awards for a life of meaningful contributions. Dave Bryant was a long-time government employee and retired from the National Security Agency (NSA).
Benjamin Canty The late Dr. Benjamin Canty is well remembered for his many successes with the music education and training of area youth. It is with delight that many recall the efforts Dr. Canty pursued in preparing our children to perform at annual FAMU Founders Day events.
Annie B. Pharr is a chapter ICON. She is recognized and respected for undaunting efforts in the application of effective business practices regarding financial matters. Annie's presence at sponsored events is always noted and thoughts of her persistent spirit remind us to focus on the business at hand. Ms. Pharr is a retired nurse.
Charles Perry The late Dr. Perry served as president of the chapter from the beginning and for many successive years. It was through his direction that this chapter retained its focus to continue and expand to its current level of achievement.

USDA/1890 National Scholars Program Application Period Opens
Scholarship Recipients Receive Tuition, Fees, Summer Employment

WASHINGTON DC, Applications for the USDA/1890 National Scholars Program are being accepted by the Department of Agriculture for the 2011-12 academic year.

USDA/1890 scholarship recipients receive full tuition, fees, books, use of laptop computers and printers, software, summer employment and benefits for each of the four years they pursue a Bachelor's degree. Upon completion of the scholar's academic degree program, there is an obligation of 1 year of service to the U.S. Department of Agriculture for each year of financial support.

NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY SUMMER RESEARCH PROGRAM
FOR HBCU/MI/TCU UNDERGRADUATES

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

OVERVIEW
Research interns are active participants in major research programs. They conduct hands-on laboratory research, working a minimum of 40 hours per week under the guidance of senior NRL staff. Students are expected to complete weekly progress reports. At the conclusion of the program, students will prepare written reports and make brief presentations describing their summer's work. In addition to conducting scientific research, the interns attend scientific and skill-set seminars on laboratory safety, ethics in science and engineering, job-search skills, and resume writing. Interns participate in organized Graduate school site visits for invaluable information on admissions policies, financial aid, and the lifestyle as a graduate student. Typical outside activities include BBQs, picnics and field excursions to local museums and other historic sites to promote team unity.

Applicants must participate continuously for the full ten weeks of the program.

ELIGIBILITY

Undergraduates currently enrolled at a Historically Black College or University, Minority Institution, or Tribal College or University (HBCU/MI/TCU) (complete list of HBCU/MI/TCU's) are encouraged to apply. Preference is given to students who have completed at least two years of undergraduate training and are planning careers in science, mathematics and engineering. This program is not intended for pre-medical students. Prior laboratory experience is desirable. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or have permanent residency.

STIPEND
Successful applicants will receive a stipend of $515.00 per week for the ten-week program ($5150.00 total) and a travel allowance of up to $600.00.
